PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Pender County has a new addition, the Holly Shelter Shooting Range is now open for business.
11-year-old Cooper Brown got to fire the first shots at the shooting range Friday afternoon.
“I like to shoot because it’s really fun and I don’t know, I just really like guns,” Brown said.
The range is at 8718 Shaw Highway in Rocky Point. NC Wildlife officials say it has a 200-yard rifle range with 12 shooting stations, a 50-yard pistol range with 12 shooting stations, a target archery range and a 20-station 3D archery course.
Dozens of people attended the grand opening, many of whom say the range is unlike anything they have ever seen.
“This is unlike anything we have around this area except for Camp Lejeune Ranges and of course they’re military,” visitor, Tom Spencer said.
The range was made possible by the NC Wildlife Commission. It took almost two years to get everything up and running and so far, officials say it is paying off.
“We’re getting a lot of great feedback from the public. Folks have been needing something like this for years,” Engineering Section Chief, Gary Gardner said.
Starting Saturday, November 5th the range will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. On Sundays from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
A daily pass for the Holly Shelter Shooting Range costs $5.
